Kate Hughes
Head of Data Systems
Where I am based: Bristol, UK
What I do: I work with a team of data scientists and web developers to make sure that DI's approach to working with data stays cutting edge, both for our internal systems and our external offerings. I also lead on technical delivery for the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI).
Previous experience: I have a degree in International Relations and spent 7 years in a variety of advocacy focused positions. I worked on the Arms Trade Treaty negotiations and have worked in Afghanistan focusing on Gender and Security Sector Reform whilst at Oxfam. I also worked for Amnesty International UK on the protection of women Human Rights Defenders.
During my time as a campaigner the use of digital products was always an important feature of my work, which lead me to spending some time in a software development agency in Bristol, focusing on agile and iterative project management.
