New edition of Development Data Hub launched

Development Initiatives’ Development Data Hub has launched edition 2.2 with the most recent available data on official development assistance (ODA, often referred to as aid), international finance, government finance, humanitarian assistance and vulnerability.

The Development Data Hub is a free data visualisation tool that provides a comprehensive online source for financial and resource flow data alongside poverty, social and vulnerability indicators. It combines an extensive data store with interactive visualisations, enabling you to chart, map and compare data at the global, national and local level.

The new data release, which covers the 2016 reporting year, complements the launch of DI’s new report Investments to End Poverty 2018, which explores how development finance is responding to the demands set by the Sustainable Development Goals, and what changes and action are needed to ensure their aspirations become reality for all.

Development data you can explore:

Global data

The Data Hub’s Global Picture allows you to generate interactive heat maps which break down a wide range of measures by country. These measures are divided into a number of categories, including:

• International official finance Includes total aid provided and received by countries side by side
• International finance Includes international resource flows and foreign direct investment
• Vulnerability Includes climate vulnerability and human hazard score
• Government finance Includes government revenue per person and government spending per person
• Poverty Includes number of people living in extreme poverty and depth of extreme poverty

Country profiles

Individual Country profiles allow you to get data for a specific country in one place, including details on poverty, population, government finance and international resources. You can also compare government finance and international resources in detail over time. Users can download the data as Excel and CSV files.

Unbundling aid

The Unbundling aid section allows you to explore and compare funding priorities, drilling down into the ODA passing between the donors and recipients (including multilateral agencies) back to 2006, and allows you to look at spending by sector, form and channel.

Country spotlights

The data hub holds country spotlights for Kenya and Uganda, offering users an even greater scope for disaggregating data geographically by providing country-level heat maps broken down into counties/districts. The measures carried in the spotlights are country-specific, and extend to multi-dimensional measures including education, health and water and sanitation.
