New Covid-19 funding data visualisation launched

The World Bank Group and the Netherlands today launched a new prototype tool to visualise data on the international response to Covid-19. The tool has been developed by Development Initiatives as part of the Grand Bargain’s transparency workstream. It makes it easier to access and use funding data published to the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs’ Financial Tracking Service (FTS).

The prototype aims to encourage the use of data on Covid-19 financing by demonstrating how it can be made more accessible and showcasing its potential. It has been developed with leading donors and aid organisations who have committed to greater transparency through the Grand Bargain and reacted quickly to demands for increased transparency around humanitarian and development finance during the pandemic.

The prototype uses FTS data to visualise humanitarian contributions and provides a summary of funding against the Covid-19 Global Humanitarian Response Plan as well as a detailed breakdown of funding for the emergency by organisation. It uses organisations’ IATI data to list the activities that are being financed in affected countries, and to show how organisations are disbursing funding to their implementing partners.
