On 23 August 2016 we responded to a funding alert raised in response to displacement in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The displacement focuses on Beni City and surroundings, North Kivu, Mbaiti and Ituri. 5,817 households are affected, including those headed by pregnant women, people with disabilities, the elderly, people with chronic illnesses, and unaccompanied children.
According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA)’s Financial Tracking Service (FTS), donors have committed/contributed US$323.8 million of humanitarian assistance to DRC since the start of 2016, 41% of which is from the United States.
The 2016 UN-coordinated Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) for DRC requested US$690 million from donors to respond to humanitarian needs in the country. The appeal is currently 40% funded at US$274.9 million.
2016 commitments/contributions to DRC have spiked in August, which are currently at US$94.1 million, 29% of the total so far in 2016.

GHA AND THE START NETWORK
The GHA Programme is partnering with the START network to help to inform its funding allocation decisions. The START network is a consortium of British-based humanitarian INGOs, which has recently launched its own fund to help fill funding gaps and enable rapid response to under-reported crises where need is great.
When the START members issue a funding alert, we produce (within 12 hours) a rapid overview of the humanitarian funding picture – recent funding, an overview of appeals and funds, and analysis of donor trends. The analysis is targeted not only at the START network but also to a wider set of stakeholders engaged in these crises – including donors, humanitarian organisations, analysts, advocates and citizens.
