Launch of the Development Data Hub

We’re pleased to announce the launch of our Development Data Hub. The Development Data Hub is the most comprehensive online resource for financial and resource flow data alongside poverty, social and vulnerability indicators. It combines an extensive data store with interactive visualisations enabling you to chart, map and compare poverty, vulnerability and financial resource flow data at the global, national and local level.

The Development Data Hub was launched in Washington DC on April 17 at an interactive workshop of finance and transparency experts. It comes at an important time for development, with vital questions are being asked about how to resource the widely-shared goal of an end to poverty by 2030. We have created the Development Data Hub to help equip those at every level to make the right decisions to achieve this ambition.

What is the Development Data Hub?

The Development Data Hub is the most comprehensive online resource for financial and resource flow data alongside poverty, social and vulnerability indicators. It combines an extensive data store with interactive visualisations enabling you to chart, map and compare poverty, vulnerability and financial resource flow data at the global, national and local level.

It aims to answer questions such as:

• What kinds of development finance are going into a country, who gives these, and are they allocated according to need?
• How does the distribution of resources look against poverty levels in a country, and specifically in sectors such as health, education and employment?
• What are countries really sending and receiving when you ‘unbundle’ resources like aid and other official flows?
• What domestic revenue does a national government raise, what mechanisms does it use, and where is it allocated?

How does it work?

It brings together many data sets, enabling you to dig into these through interactive maps, charts and visualisations. It turns complex data around poverty and resource flows into easy to understand robust information and evidence about what is really going on. You can explore the data you are interested in to get the information you need to tackle poverty.

Who is it for?

The Development Data Hub is for everyone who is making decisions about allocating resources to target poverty and achieve the ambition of ending it by 2030. It will empower you with detailed information on how resources are currently spent, focusing on international official finance and domestic resources. International actors can use it to better understand global resources, how they relate to poverty and ensure the right decisions are being made on how and where specific resources could be better targeted. National governments can use it to better understand how the resources leaving and entering their countries could target the poorest people. Civil society groups can use the wealth of information to advocate for better systems and spending decisions to tackle poverty.

How can I access and use the Development Data Hub?

This groundbreaking new resource is live at www.devinit.org/data or go to the explore the data tab in the navigation above. New data will continue to be added to it to provide more in-depth information and analysis. Where possible, all data can be downloaded for your own use. Development Initiatives will be undertaking a series of events and training on the Development Data Hub over the coming months.
