The Global Humanitarian Assistance (GHA) report is an annual publication from Development Initiatives on global trends in humanitarian financing. This 10th edition of the GHA report includes analysis of where humanitarian assistance comes from, where it goes, what it is spent on and how it gets there.
It also provides a snapshot of recent emergencies (such as Syria – our latest blog details the dramatic increase in aid requirements) and their human impact. The report highlights efforts to strengthen the response to people in crises such as principles, standards and accountability frameworks; transparency; the use of technology to empower beneficiaries; and resilience.
It will be launched on 17 July at The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) meeting in Geneva, with a panel debate starting at 17:45. All those attending ECOSOC are invited to join attend the launch, which will include an opportunity to pose questions to Judith Randel, our Executive Director, and the following panellists:
- Claus Sorensen – Director General of DG ECHO, European Commission;
- Carsten Voelz – Humanitarian Director for Oxfam International;
- Dr Bart Janssens – Operational Director of MSF
- Jessica Eliasson – Humanitarian Policy Specialist, Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA);
For those based in Geneva but not attending ECOSOC, we will be hosting informal drinks after the launch for further discussion on the report’s findings.
