About: Buntwani 2017, hosted by Open Institute, will be held on 4 and 5 September in Dar es Salaam. It’s an ‘unconference’ – a buzz-group designed to facilitate peer-learning, critical thinking and actionable partnerships, where everyone must come with some information or input to share.
The theme for 2017 is ‘Leave no one behind: More than just a slogan’. The unconference will focus on the Global Goals – attempts to eliminate poverty, combat inequality and tackle climate change by 2030, and to do so while ensuring no one is left behind.
A summary of what the meeting aims to achieve:
- Strengthen citizen participation by improving the understanding and use of technology and data-supported initiatives to monitor government performance, service delivery and transparency levels.
- Share examples of how civil society and state actors have found ways to work with citizens at subnational level.
- Explore new ways of implementing and monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals by exploring strategies to improve how citizen action influences government action at subnational level.
